How often have you wished that you could look in your own bedroom window using Google Maps, only to realize that you just can't zoom in far enough to see any detail? Well, it turns out that maybe you can.

Adobe Photoshop ExpressNot too bad for light photo editing - It works as expected. No errors to note.
Sign up was easy but it did not connect to my other adobe login. Not sure if this is good or bad but I'll call it bad given that i don't need yet another duplicate e-mail from the same company. For free I can't complain too much. By Lance at 2008-04-04 08:10 | Lance's blog | add new comment
Freeware Genius is greatI love downloading and trying out programs as I've written here before - however I generally don't take the time to really sit down and conduct a formal review. I find what I like and I use it or I try something I don't like and I remove it. I don't know this guy from Adam but I trust the objective reviews and have generally been in complete agreement - you should check it out. WPUT usageI stuggled with this today so I thought I'd share the information here - I kept getting an error in WPUT when my file names had spaces in them (I'm using VBA in Access to ftp /upload photos to a particular site). So, I tried to enclose the name in a single quote but that didn't work either. I finally tried using chr(34) to enclose the file directory and file name string and had success - here is a snippit.

dialidol - dialing, predictionsinteresting idea - predicting winners based on busy signals across the country. I guess the statistical significance of the results would be based on the number of people who actually use the software for dialing and measuring the results.

Drupal, godaddy, multisite configurationWow - what a sense of accomplishment. I was very very frustrated with the instructions in the install.txt file that came along with Drupal 4.7x. The instructions seemed simple enough but I just couldn't get the multi-site functions to work properly until today. Maybe this is totally obvious but for some reason, I struggled getting it to work and by the looks of the forums on the Drupal.org site, others have run in to the same situation. --- So, first off I knew that one set of code and one database could run multiple Drupal sites and the install.txt file tells you how to configure the directory structure for your settings.php file. I had a site structure like the following - www.sample.com - ran a Drupal site and I wanted abc.sample.com and xyz.sample.com to run their own Drupal sites too. Rather than go through a long explanation on what I did WRONG I'll tell you how I did it right. What you really want is for all the sites to point to the same index.php. So in godaddy you set up 2 subdomains (abc, xyz in this case) but point them to the root of the website. You don't have to create abc or xyz directories off the root. All the domains and subdomains default to the index.php in the root of the web directory or www.sample.com/index.php. You also have to set up your sites directory to point to these sub domains and I ended up with a file structure like this:
I can't tell you how many things I tried before realizing that I could just do this. More youtube downloading softwareToday we'll take a look at "youripper" from Remlap Software. Here is a brief description from their site
I downloaded it and gave it a shot. The install was pretty straight forward but the interface is - interesting. In Firefox there a appears a small icon in the upper left corner of the screen (you can move it) and if you click on it you get a 'you ripper' tool bar of sorts. It stays in your header bar on your web browser. Here is a picture of the tool bar
If you click the little filmstrip icon and paste in a url for a youtube video - you select a location for the saved file and the following progress bar shows up... A great tool - make your own video sharing siteI highly recommend the RIVA FLV encoder (http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?encoder&L=3) for converting video to FLV files. It works well enough plus it's freeware and in combination with FlowPlayer (http://flowplayer.sourceforge.net/) you can basically make your own youtube type site.
OK, it's not perfect but it's close for the small blogger or someone just sharing short family videos with family and friends. Basic steps - 1. get a video of some sort 2. load it in to the encoder and select your output options. i find that the quality is best at about the 320x240 range for my videos shot with my digital camera. 3. encode! 4. ftp that file to you site (you'll need a ftp program) - I use one of 2, Filezilla or the firefox extension FireFTP 5. Post your HTML Post. crafting the html for flowplayer may be the most tricky part of this deal but basically you have to set the parameters of your html entry in your post to point to the right files on your server. I'm not going to go in to all that here because it's relatively straigiforward and explained in the files that come with flowplayer. That is about it. YouTube Download program updatedThe program I mentioned the other day has another beta version out and this time it provides Google Video searching functionality. Windows Live WriterI must admit that I really do like Microsoft's Windows Live Writer software. I'm using it now to compose this blog post and while it doesn't do everything I might like, it does some things a lot better than other tools. I think the biggest thing that it does - that makes it stand out from the rest is handle images and image posting. Being a very visually oriented
Windows Live Writer makes it very easy to drag and drop photos from YouTube Downloaderhttp://downldtrailers.sourceforge.net/ a neat little alpha version software program that will download youtube videos. looks like there are plans to interface with google and others too. Works pretty well. Here are a couple screen shots. a couple of the menus expanded
