YouTube Download program updated

The program I mentioned the other day has another beta version out and this time it provides Google Video searching functionality.

Windows Live Writer

I must admit that I really do like Microsoft's Windows Live Writer software.  I'm using it now to compose this blog post and while it doesn't do everything I might like, it does some things a lot better than other tools.

I think the biggest thing that it does - that makes it stand out from the rest is handle images and image posting.  Being a very visually oriented person, my preference generally is to illustrate what it is that I'm talking about so the handling of images is important.  Plus I really don't want to depend on 3rd party tools most of the time (I want to host my own images not post them on Flickr or photobucket et al).

Windows Live Writer makes it very easy to drag and drop photos from explorer in to the interface - it creates a thumbnail and adds borders and formatting.  Very easy to use and very intuitive.

YouTube Downloader

http://downldtrailers.sourceforge.net/

a neat little alpha version software program that will download youtube videos.  looks like there are plans to interface with google and others too.

Works pretty well.

Here are a couple screen shots.

a couple of the menus expanded

after doubleclicking on a video, the program will download to your hard drive

if i had a local mysql database, this software would probably be a pretty solid choice. unfortunately i need the advanced options and am not ready to pay the 47 for the pro edition.
bummer.

mr postman - fix to yahoo issue

An attempt to fix the issue with the download of yahoo mail.
Use (and/or follow these directions) at your own risk. Be sure to back up your old yahoo.script file before you attempt to use this one. It has been working for me but I cannot guarantee results.

To use:
1. you'll have to download this file (attached here yahoo.script.txt). Right click and do a "save as" in windows.
2. I'd recommend backing up your old yahoo.script file in your mrpostman directory. (copy it to yahoo.script.old or something like that)
3. rename the downloaded file from yahoo.script.txt to yahoo.script
4. copy to your mrpostman directory
5. I'm not sure if you have to restart mrpostman or not but I did. So, restart.
6. download your mail as you used to before the format changed.

7... please let me know if it worked for you. (using comments)

update on 11/20/06 - please see new file for fixes.
removed file from this post.

By downloading you agree that this is totally at your own risk whether that be with yahoo's TOS or with any computer you use to download or run it on.

Open source Project Management

]project-open[ - An Open-Source Based Project Management System

I was searching for a freeware/opensource invoicing system and came across ]project-open[. NOt sure why they have the brackets around the name.
The product looks really nice, maybe a little complex but seems to contain a lot of functionality.
My only problem is that my hosting provider won't allow me to install the aol server component that this product needs, so it will have to be shelved for now.
Darn!

dcut install

I don't feel like creating another user id here so I'll just post my follow up in my own darn blog.
my issues with the installation of dcut centered around PERMISSIONS TO FOLDERS, not the existence of long file names in any path.

I have an HP Media center pc and when i set up the machine, i added an account for me to use that was NOT the default admin id. this id has most permissions but when the installer ran it attempted to access the HP_administrator directory and failed (learned this from the handy dandy log file). So, I logged out of my primary id, logged in with the overall admin id and installed. viola it worked. hope this helps someone.

Auto run software for USB Drives.

untested at this point - I don't really need it so it's a solution looking for a problem

Tiki Wiki.

attempted to install tiki wiki over the last 24 hours (on a godaddy hosted domain) and was not successful overall. (can be found here http://tikiwiki.org/)

The install script ran ok but when i tried to edit a page i received error messages. So, I just deleted the whole thing.

for the record the error started as follows
"Call to a member function on a non-object in ..."
Since I deleted the pages I'm not sure i can recreate.
